Horses grazing at the Tranquile sanctuary

Chennai · Since 2004

Ahimsa lived out every single day.

I-CARE is a registered charitable trust (No. 1559/2004) based in Chennai — established to promote and sync the Gandhian philosophy of Ahimsa in our daily way of life and extend our compassion and care to any animal when found in pain or distress.

Our mission

I-CARE has been established with a bold three-pronged mission.

01

Replace animals in biological sciences

To expose the horrific pain and needless cruelty in animal experimentation and to teach/ propagate the science of alternatives to animal use in basic biomedical research, new drug development, agrochemical toxicity testing and life science education.

Dogs are as sentient as a two-year-old child.

In partnership with Cruelty Free International (UK), I-CARE published fMRI evidence in the Journal of Medical Ethics proving that dogs feel emotions like a two-year-old human child — and therefore must not be used in harmful experiments.

‘The Tranquile’ — a forever home, one of its kind in the world.

A sanctuary for close to a thousand rescued animals, with a residential retreat for sportspersons and athletes built on the science of human–animal interaction. Here the sick, the blind, the dying, the abandoned, the orphaned, the used and the abused will live their second chance in life — unfettered and free.
